Outcome measured Stool frequency, stool consistency, constipation symptom score, symptom remission, and quality of life.
Main result Flaxseed significantly improved bowel movement frequency, stool consistency, constipation symptoms, and quality of life. Its efficacy was comparable or superior to lactulose for several outcomes, with good tolerability.
Risk of bias Moderate. Randomized trial with an active comparator, but no clear description of allocation concealment or blinding, relatively small sample size, and short follow-up (4 weeks).
